The Federal Government is providing three million dollars to Community Futures BC, to help the province's rural communities adapt to the changing economy. With the cash infusion, expected over four years, Community Futures BC will be able to carry out their Rural Economic Diversification Initiative (REDI-BC.) The program funds projects that help BC's smaller communities adapt, become more productive, competitive and diverse.
Kelowna-Lake Country MP Ron Cannan says organizations will be able to apply for funding to cover 60 percent of project costs - up to 200 thousand dollars.
With pine beetle devastation and the collapse of the American housing market, Cannan says rural communities that rely on the forestry industry need to find innovative ways to stimulate their local economy.
