Review by Michael Frey
Pleasure serves as an introduction to
Semisonic's blend of melodic, guitar-driven pop and sensitive, '70s-flavored ballads. Issued while the band awaited the release of their first full-length effort, this EP features early versions of "The Prize" and "Brand New Baby," both of which were later revamped for
Great Divide. The band succeeds in many styles, whether it's the whimsical power-pop of "Sculpture Garden," the stripped-down acoustic sound of "The Gift," or the soulful tones of "Star."
Pleasure is a brief sample of
Semisonic that leaves the listener hungering for more.
