Review by Jo-Ann Greene
Not exactly a greatest-hits set, how could it be without such masterpieces as "Madness," "Money Worries," and "Africa We Want to Go"NULL In fact, the post-reggae period is particularly poorly served, with only "Road to Zion" representing the duo's roots and culture canon. In fairness though,
The Maytones's output had considerably diminished by the roots era, as their manager/producer
Alvin Ranglin turned his attention to other artists (notably
Gregory Isaacs). But previous to that, the pair had unleashed a deluge of singles, kicking off with their exuberant 1968 debut "Billy Goat." The liner notes provide a career overview, and the album is sequenced in something approaching rough chronological order (hardcore fans should be wary of the dates within the sleeve notes and should not put faith in the actual track order).
