No Application...No Grant
BC's Education Ministry says Pearson Road Elementary in Kelowna never applied for the latest round of playground funding, and therefore would never have received it.
Speaking to AM 1150 News, Shirley Bond says other than not applying, Pearson was also not limited by not raising enough money, because there was never that type of requirement.
Bond says the Ministry will be taking another look at the criteria used to dole out playground grants to schools, but some things won't change.
She says they will be looking at the fund-matching element of the grants as well as the requirment that the school have a parent advisory council.
Bond says her government will not stop handing out the grants to expensive private schools, such as St. Georges in Vancouver, that previously received playground grants.
Bond says there are still more rounds of playground funding to be handed out.
