The courts don't fool around when it comes to income tax evasion.
A Kelowna man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to tax evasion.
Carpenter Heinz Suess was fined $23,591 and given six months probation for not reporting income and failing to collect and remit the G-S-T between 2001 and 2005.
Maria Bender with the Canada Revenue Agency says Suess has to pay the fine and repay the taxes owing.
That amount includes $139,070 in unpaid income tax and unremitted GST to the tune of $10,181.
Bender says the fine is 75 percent of the income taxes evaded and the GST that wasn't paid.
