Rabbits and Horses Live Together at Race Track
Rabbits and race horses don't mix well together but Vernon's stray bunny population has avoided eviction from the Kin Race track for now.
Maurie Deaton of Vernon Rabbit Rescue says, now that race horses have moved into the track stables for the season, there's concern about injuries and liability.
"We have a lot of respect for them. They have a lot of money and energy and effort tied up into their race horses. And we don't want anything to happen to their horses just like we don't want anything to happen to our people. So it's just a matter of how to work that out."
Greater Vernon Services has extended the rabbits stay at the Race Track until a long term solution is found.
Deaton has been trapping the feral bunnies in Vernon and ensuring they're spayed or neutered before they're adopted out to another home.
