Kelowna's Fire Department has been chosen to pilot a new emergency response software. Fire Chief Rene Blanleil and Assistant Chief Kerry Klonteig were at the World Conference on Disaster Management in Toronto earlier this week to deploy JEPRS, the Joint Emergency Planning and Response System. Klonteig says the new system enables real-time communication between different groups involved in an emergency, including the fire department, government, and emergency response at the management and field levels. Klonteig says the system will help the Fire Department have an even better response during emergencies, like the 2003 fires.
