Noisy boats and excessive speed were the norm on Okanagan Lake on Canada Day.

Constable Gerry Guiltenane of the RCMP's Boat Patrol says many boaters are simply oblivious to the rules.

"Traveling at unsafe speeds, failing to maintain a proper lookout and not having on board the mandatory safety equipment or at night time, navigating with all of the proper lights displayed".

Guiltenane says they continue to have problems with speed boats making excessive noise.

"Their is one individual who was charged four times last year and I am getting complaints about him again. They just don't care", Guiltenane added.

Guiltenane says one boat on Okanagan Lake last year was recorded at 120 decibels.

The fine for excessive noise is just 100 dollars.

However Kelowna RCMP are saying there were no major problems on shore.

All tolled there were 27 arrests made during the Canada Day Celebrations - mostly for public drunkedness and fighting but Mounties say that number is lower than it has been in the past.

Crowds took about a half an hour to clear out after the fireworks Tuesday night but, again, RCMP say it was done in an orderly fashion with no major incidents.
