The majority has spoken, and it looks like West Kelowna is the popular choice fo a new name for the District of Westside.

On Saturday, there were 166 votes separating the top choice from second place Westbank, in the municipality's non-binding referendum.

Adam Les, from the Westside Naming Committee, says he doesn't think Mayor-elect Doug Findlator and his council will disregard the view of the people.

Les says Findlator was the one who endorsed the ballot that pitted West Kelowna and Westbank against each other.

"Other councilors have said they support first-past-the-post and will go with whatever the majority votes for or gets the majority of votes...and West Kelowna won," says Les.

After four months of debates about a new name, Les says its now time to move on.

I for one of many do not think we should change our name to West Kelowna. For those people who did vote West Kelowna why didnt you vote for amalgamation? As future residents of Westbank the middle schoolers should have a say in this aswell because we can understand. It has been Westbank for a while and it should stay like that otherwise, we should have Amalgamated

All of us from Westbank didn't know we were loud to vote as we live on the reserve so we think that they should have a revote specially with the naming of our wonderful town. I personally and know of alot of people think that the renaming of Westbank is not right and its going to cost all the tax payers money as they would have to change every-thing from phone books and mailing and signs ect.. The goverment isn't going to pay for this. This town has been Westbank all this time and soon as we get our own mayor and councle then Kelowna demands us too change our name. This is not Kelowna, we voted not to be part of Kelowna as we wanted to be our own and now we have to be changed. Thats not fair and not right. But the rest of us that didn't know we were to vote should have this right too vote now. Please if you can let new mayor know this. It wasn't in the paper either, Thank-you
