Astral Media Makes Major Funding Commitment to KGH

Astral Media, the parent company of AM 1150, Sun FM and Silk FM, has made a multi-year commitment of 1 million dollars to Kelowna General Hospital.

Don Shafer, Astral's VP and Regional Manager for the BC Interior Group, says the funding will go toward the creation of a specialized pediatric unit and children's waiting area in the new Emergency Room at KGH. Shafer says a good portion of the money will come from fundraising, through Astral's Have a Heart Radiothon, which has generated 700 thousand dollars over the past 5 years right here in Kelowna.

The new pediatric unit in the ER is scheduled to be open by 2012.
