Here is a great story about the "Ripple Effect!"

Today my sister and I were so excited to finally use our very first ripple effect card. We were driving around Westbank trying to figure out what to do when we decided to go to McDonalds for ice cream. As we were paying we overheard the drive thru guy putting the next customer on hold when we got REALLY excited and said to one another "THIS IS IT". So we looked at the worker and said "wait a minute, take that persons order and we'll pay for it" he gave us the "these woman are crazy look" and proceeded to take the customers order. We then paid for the order and explained to the McDonalds employee that he was to hand the ripple effect card to the driver of the vehicle behind us. Even though the order was a small one "desserts for a family of 4" we had SO MUCH FUN DOING THIS. We were laughing like little school girls and at the same time trying to secretly peek through our rear view mirror to see who it was we had just slapped an unexpected gesture of kindness on. Our kids in the back seat of our car were now also looking at us wondering what was the big deal. We noticed the driver reading his card and wondered what he might be thinking. No matter how small or large an act of kindness might be, it was an absolute joy and we can't wait to do it again. Everyone should be carrying these golden opportunity cards as we call them in their, wallets, purses, vehicles etc. Thanks So Much For Starting This Amazing Ripple Effect.

The aptly named ‘Splinter’ is the world’s first wooden supercar. Made from maple, plywood and MDF, the 6-speed, V-8 sports car has a top speed of 240 mph and can do 0-60 in just over 3 seconds. It also gets an impressive but hardly environmentally friendly 20 mpg. The Splinter will be available later THIS YEAR at an as-yet undetermined price. Click HERE to check it out!

On “Things You Need To Know” this morning: With millions of people texting on cellphones, PDA’s, and in chatrooms, it’s no wonder you have trouble keeping up with the various short-forms being used. Thank goodness there’s a website keeping up with net lingo shorthand. A few terms you may not be unaware of ...

HOODIE HOO to YOU!

Today is Hoodie-Hoo Day! We are all encouraged to go outdoors and yell 'HOODIE-HOO!!!!' at the top of your lungs at noon to relieve winter blahs and encourage the arrival of Spring. Have fun and try not to give the neighbours a heart attack!

Tonight we have the “Snow Moon”, the Full Moon of FEBRUARY, so-named because it’s around the time when the heaviest snowfall normally occurs in the Northern Hemisphere. Hopefully the fact that we have a lunar eclipse tonight will veto any heavy snowfall!!

Next up the moon turning some funky colours with a total Lunar eclipse! Click HERE for more information.

It's a bird.. It's a plane.. NOPE.. It's just a really really really big moon!

Keep this in mind if you get the munchies today. As we learned in “Things You Need To Know” Thirst can masquerade as hunger, which is one reason dieters should stay hydrated. Now German researchers have found another reason: Water fuels your body's fat burners. For 90 minutes after drinking 16 ounces of chilled water, adults saw their metabolism rise by 24 percent over their average rates.

Pancakes! Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner!

Tue, 2008-02-05 08:54.
Susan Knight

Welcome to Pancake Tuesday!

We had fun flinging pancakes this morning!  Today is "Mardi Gras"/"Fat Tuesday"/"Shrove Tuesday"/"Pancake Day"/"Carnaval", always 46 days before Easter and traditionally the final chance to indulge before the austerity of Lent. In Latin, ‘carne vale' means ‘farewell to meat'. The day is marked by masked balls, lavish costumes, floats, parades, torchlight processions, dancing, fireworks, and feasting on all sorts of foods.  Many of the traditions go back to the 14th Century.  We of course started a new tradition which was flinging pancakes at the wall to see which pancake would stick better.. one with maple syrup, jam, or butter.. not sure which one won.. but did we ever make a MESS!  We flung the pancakes at stars who need to eat more.. Terri Hatcher seemed to get it the worst!

How goes the "Clicking of the Coconut?" Keep on clicking and dialing!!  More chances for you to qualify for boarding passes to the Fiesta Finale on the way! 8 people will be leaving for Mexico at the end of the March.  How AMAZING would that be!!

BTW: Did you get your Ripple Effect cards?  Check it out online HERE. Do your good deed today.. you never know where that ripple will go! We will be asking you to share your "ripple" on Friday!

And..

Please check out the 30K Club.  SUN FM is a supporter of this great initiative  to help raise money for the Gospel Mission and transitional housing. Next time you walk by and see a homeless person, or someone who is obviously hit hard times you don't have to wonder what you could do to be part of the solution to this community issue. Join us with the 30K Club.

Thinking about snuggling up with the one you love and watching a flick? Today's DVD releases include:

"Across the Universe" ( Musical Romance ): Evan Rachel Wood & Jim Sturgess play a ‘60s couple caught up in the counter-culture in this tribute to peace activism set against the backdrop of 33 Beatles tunes. The stars sing on the soundtrack along with Bono, Joe Cocker, and several lesser-knowns. Also available in a ‘2-Disc Deluxe Edition.

"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" ( Western ): In this James Gang bio-film, Robert Ford (Casey Affleck), who has idolized Jesse James (Brad Pitt) since childhood, tries hard to join the reforming gang but gradually becomes resentful of the Missouri outlaw. Shot entirely in Alberta.

"Blonde & Blonder" ( Comedy ): Pamela Anderson & Denise Richards star as a pair of gorgeous blondes (‘Dee' & ‘Dawn') who get into deep doo-doo when they're mistaken for international mob killers. Pam basically showed up for this as a favor to her screenwriter-brother Gerry Anderson. Partially shot in Vancouver & area.

"The Brave One" ( Crime Thriller ): Jodie Foster stars as a NYC radio host who goes on a vigilante hunt to find the men who brutally beat her and killed her fiancé. Co-stars Terrence Howard & Naveen Andrews. Foster changed her character from newspaper reporter to radio announcer before shooting started. Premiered at the "Toronto International Film Festival".

"Elizabeth: The Golden Age" ( Bio Drama ): Reprising the roles they originated in "Elizabeth" (1998), Cate Blanchett & Geoffrey Rush return for this gripping historical thriller laced with treachery and romance. Joining them is Clive Owen as Sir Walter Raleigh, the dashing seafarer and newfound temptation for Britain's ‘virgin queen'.

Also released TODAY: "The Apartment (Collector's Edition)"; "The Aristocats (Special Edition)"; "Midnight Express: 30th Anniversary Edition"; "Tootsie: 25th Anniversary Edition"; and "You've Got Mail: Deluxe Edition".

The date is 2-4-08... who do we appreciate?

Forget the groundhogs from other parts of the country.. for us it’s all about “Marvin” the Marmot! Who I am happy to report is whistling in SPRING!!! We might be delusional from the cold but run with us on this one..

Today in “Things You Need To Know” we discovered that today is the “Midpoint of Winter”, at least statistically speaking. This being a Leap Year, Winter lasts a total of 89 days, meaning the halfway point occurs about midday today. It may not seem like it, but Winter is actually the shortest season.

FRIDAY!!!

Fri, 2008-02-01 09:47.
The Breakfast Club

Welcome to February! Groundhog Day – Valentine’s Day and more chances for you to win with The Breakfast Club!

Here’s more “Groundhog Day” info for you! It’s an annual celebration based on the old Scottish rhyme that says: “If Candlemas Day is bright and clear, there'll be 2 winters in the year.” It was actually the Teutons (Germans) who first decided that if the Sun was out on “Candlemas Day”, an animal would cast a shadow, predicting 6 more weeks of bad weather (aka ‘second winter’).

Congratulations to our daily qualifiers so far and good luck! We will be reading out names starting bright and early Monday morning for more Fiesta Finale winners.. you could be a step closer to a trip to Mexico!!

Yup.. More snow..

Big YAWN! - Welcome to Monday!

As we learned this morning in "Things You Need to Know" A new survey reveals that SUNDAY is the most sleepless night of the week. This lack of sleep in turn contributes to lack of concentration at work on MONDAY, irritability with co-workers, and even the occasional nap.  Yikes.. stay strong you wil make it through OK!

It also happens to be: "Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day", celebrating the padding we all like to pop. Check out THIS websites and kill some time popping!
